Newbow gears up for a busy summer of GSE projects
Posted on 14th June 2024
Later this year, Newbow will celebrate its 60th anniversary and the indications are that it will be another strong performance for the Redditch-based company, which started trading in 1964.
From its beginnings manufacturing precision tyre inflation and pressure checking equipment for the automotive and aviation industries, over the past half century Newbow has focused exclusively on supporting the aviation sector. Remaining an independent, privately owned business throughout that time, Newbow has built an enviable reputation worldwide for the manufacture of premium grade aircraft ground support equipment, tooling and instrumentation.
Having secured Approved Supplier status from Boeing at the start of 2024, which reinforced a strong order book, the company is gearing up for a very busy summer of fabrication and shipments.
The manufacture of bespoke wheel and brake change trailers is a specialty of Newbow and the business has already delivered multiple units for both airline and MRO engineering customers on the continent and further afield.
As well as manufacturing ground support equipment for commercial airlines, airports and MROs, Newbow also supplies customers within the military aviation sector. For example, a recent project involved the manufacture of a 4-bottle easy load Nitrogen cart with gas cylinder refill point to the Royal Netherlands Air Force.
On the commercial aviation side, Newbow was recently contracted by long-term customer, Qatar Airways, to provide the airline with a shipment of air start hose reels for its maintenance base in the Middle East. These reels, designed with precision and reliability, not only ensure efficient operations but also contribute to a safer and more productive work environment, making them ideal for hangar use.
Sustainability is a watchword within the international aviation community and GSE manufacturers are striving to meet customer demands for more sustainable equipment. Significant investment worldwide is being made at airports to facilitate the use of electric ramp vehicles, recharged through renewable energy infrastructure.
As a UK leader in GSE manufacture, Newbow Aerospace has risen to this challenge. Earlier this year, the company was the first to introduce a wheel and brake change trailer into the GSE market, featuring a roof-mounted solar panel that powers internal LED lighting. The launch of this innovative piece of equipment was covered extensively by the industry’s trade press.
Initially designed and manufactured for launch customer, Aer Lingus, to enhance its night-time line maintenance operation, Newbow’s Solar XL trailer eliminates tow vehicle dependency, thanks to its on-demand renewable power.
Marc Green, Sales Director of Newbow Aerospace, said:
“In line with the major advancements happening across the aviation industry to achieve sustainability objectives set out in the Fly Net Zero pledge, Newbow is seeing a rise in demand for greener GSE solutions. As an innovator in our field, we were delighted to develop the new Solar XL trailer for launch customer, Aer Lingus. The availability of lightweight, flexible solar panels gives us scope to develop products which will contribute to more sustainable airport ramp operations.”
Supporting the global aviation industry for over fifty years, Newbow Aerospace is a leading manufacturer of ground support equipment, including nitrogen carts, calibrated gauges, hoses, regulators, wheel and brake change trailers and other tools and equipment.
